Abstract

A Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) based Photonic Crystal Fiber (PCF) biosensor structure is proposed in this paper which consists of a single hexagonal lattice layer made of only circular air-slots. Our prime objective is to develop a simple form of PCS Biosensor so that high sensitivity can be obtained in the visible to near Infrared (IR) spectrum and can be easily fabricated and practically implemented. Numerical evaluation is undertaken using COMSOL Multiphysics version 5.5. The proposed design gives maximal AS of 1072.5 $RIU^{-1}$, peak WS of 41,000 nm/RIU, and sensor resolution of $2.4\times 10^{-6}$ in x-polarization mode. This PCF biosensor can be implemented in biochemical applications.
