Abstract
Pestalotin 4-methyl-β-mannopyranoside (1), a new polyketide, was isolated from an organic extract of Xylaria sp., an endophytic fungus associated with Hintonia latiflora along with the known quinone derivatives 2 and 3. The structure of 1 was elucidated by conventional spectroscopic and spectrometric analyses. The absolute configuration at the chiral carbons of the polyketide moiety of 1 was established by comparison of the experimental and calculated CD and J6 – 7-value.
