Abstract

The present paper proposes a novel approach to solve strategic expansion problems between generation and transmission companies when it considers security constraints of power network such as transient stability and voltage stability of the system. Generally, in previous studies, generation expansion planning (GEP) and transmission expansion planning (TEP) are solved in a restructuring environment of power market without considering the security constraint of the power system. Hence, the proposed approach definites voltage stability index and security stability index as a security constraint of the system at the first step. Afterward, an objective function for GEP and TEP problem is formulated considering the security constraints. Eventually, the objective function is optimized by particle swarm optimization algorithm and the optimum expansion planning of generation and transmission are determined. Several case studies have been carried out to evaluate the performance of the proposed spruce. The results clearly demonstrate that the proposed method solve GEP and TEP problem when it considers economic and security objectives in a competitive electricity market.
