Abstract
In this study, we have developed a novel route to synthesize 3-MPA capped CdSe quantum dots (QD’s) of controllable size by a facile aqueous route using least hazard chemicals. Selenium sources like Se powder, Na2Se which are hazardous, expensive and unstable have been replaced by water soluble selenium dioxide for the synthesis of CdSe QD’s. These QD’s have been characterized by XRD, UV-vis absorption and photoluminescence (PL) measurements. Small particle sizes in the range 1.7-2.6 nm are synthesized that emit green, bright yellow and orange colors. The XRD results indicated that as synthesized CdSe QDs has a pure Zinc blende structure.
