Abstract

The self‐assembly assisted by pyridine (py), zinc(II) with 2‐(1,3)‐dithiolan‐2‐ylidene‐malonic acid (dyma) has yielded a novel zinc(II) complex of [Zn(py)2(dyma)(H2O)]n · nH2O (1), which was characterized by elemental analysis, FT‐IR spectroscopy, photoluminescence spectroscopy and single‐crystal X‐ray analysis. Complex 1 crystallizes in the monoclinic system, space group P21/n with a=8.7753(12) Å, b=9.714(2) Å, c=21.060(8)Å, β=97.64(2)°, V=1779.2(8) Å3, Z=4, Dc=1.885 g cm−3, μ(MoKα)=1.668 mm−1, F(000)=1028, R 1=0.0386, R w2=0.0871. The zinc ion in 1 is hexa‐coordinated in a distorted octahedral configuration. The ligand dyma adopts a bicarboxylic chelating and μ‐O bridging coordinating modes acting as tridentate ligand to form a novel one‐dimensional single helical chain coordination polymer, which arrange in a racemate of right‐ and left‐handed helices. Between the chains there are H‐bond interactions creating a 2D lamellar structure for which the lattice water molecules play an important role. The compound 1 exhibited blue fluorescence with an emission maximum at 449 nm upon excitation at 425 nm.
