Abstract A novel octanuclear copper(I) complex, which has a compressed square antiprismatic core of copper atoms (Cu···Cu = av. 2.651(9) Å), was prepared by the reaction of copper(II) acetate with 2-(4-methoxyphenyl)benzothiazoline.
