Abstract

A novel multilayer TM dual-mode substrate integrated cavity filter with nonresonating modes has been proposed and developed in a new cavity arrangement. In contrast with the previous dual-mode filters, the novel TM dual-mode SIW cavity allows the realization of both symmetric and asymmetric filtering functions, simultaneously exploiting the maximum number of finite frequency transmission zeros. The high design flexibility in terms of number and position of transmission zeros is obtained by exciting and exploiting a set of nonresonating modes. Six structure parameters are used to fully control its equivalent coupling topology. The relationship between structure parameters and filtering function realized is extensively discussed in this paper. Detailed design process is introduced to synthesize an X-band multilayer TM dual-mode filter.
