Abstract

In this study, a novel Al-Si alloy eutectic Si modifier was proposed and prepared. The microstructure, metamorphism mechanism and mechanical properties of the eutectic Si of the alloy after adding Mg-15La master alloy were investigated. The results show that high-density nano-cluster particles appear within the eutectic Si after Mg-15La master alloy addition. After adding the master alloy, the eutectic Si morphology changes from strip to fiber or granular. The average length of eutectic Si changed from 6.04 µm to 1.04 µm. The mechanical properties after casting and heat treatment have been significantly improved.
