Abstract

The design, fabrication and measurement of a novel integrated antenna array which combines microwave antenna and optical antenna are presented. The proposed antenna unit consists of a micro-strip Vivaldi antenna, a common metal frame which acts as ground plate for Vivaldi antenna, and an optical antenna mounted between two Vivaldi antennas. Utilizing an integrated design, not only is a fusion of two different types of antennas realized, but also the whole antenna's size and weight are reduced. Though the gain of Vivaldi antenna decreases slightly due to deterioration of backward radiation, the prototype array exhibits a measured <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\boldsymbol{VSWR} < 2.4$</tex> and good radiation pattern from 9.0GHz to 10.2GHz, showing well agreement with simulations.
