Abstract
A novel microstrip patch filter which has a U-shaped defected ground structure (DGS) and a double line coupled resonator structure is presented. The U shaped DGS etched on the ground plane and the double line coupled structures, at the feed line, which has a U shape etched on both sides of the feed line were responsible for obtaining the bandpass filter. The double line coupled structure was placed at the midpoint of the two ports, having a gap of 1.2mm which created a weak coupling. Copper was used for the ground and patch, while FR4 was used for the substrate. The best parameters for the measurements were obtained through parameter sweep. The filter was simulated using CST 2019 simulation software and validated with CAD Feko 2019 software. The results were analyzed, which showed that it has steep selectivity and a low insertion loss of −1.27dB and transmission zeros at −26dB and −33bB. The filter has an operating frequency of 8.225GHz, which falls within the X band range that is used in radar and satellite applications.
