Abstract

Orientation field is important for fingerprint image enhancement, which is also crucial for matching between fingerprint templates. In some fingerprint application such as holder identification of legal ID document, it is difficult to store both the feature data and the data of orientation field because of the limitation on storage capacity of chip. To solve above problem, a novel method of fingerprint orientation field reconstruction is presented in this paper, in which the fingerprint orientation field is expressed through 2D Fourier Expansion, low dimensional matrix data that can reconstruct the orientation field precisely are calculated and stored. Experimental results show that the method can effectively solve the problem that storage capacity of legal document chip is not enough to application of fingerprint algorithm.
