Abstract

Adaptive Polarization Canceller (APC) is a simple and effective way to suppress interference for radars in the field of polarization. However, with this method, the two orthogonal polarization channels are both required to receive interference only at first, which makes it realizes the cancellation in at least two received signals. In this paper, a novel improved method of APC for pulse radar is presented. Considering the target signal is only a part of the received signal, while the interference retains all the time, we divided the received signal into sections based on range cells and calculated polarization ratio for each section to sort out whether there is target signal or only interference. Then traditional APC is used in one section with interference only to obtain the optimized weigh and cancelled the interference along the received signal. With the proposed method, the radars can do the polarization cancellation in each received signal, the efficiency and real-time processing ability of cancellation are obviously improved.
