Abstract

In this paper, a novel self-calibration algorithm is proposed for two-dimensional (2-D) direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation based on L-shaped array (LSA) with mutual coupling. In this method, we construct a transformation matrix to eliminate the mutual coupling between subarrays, and then the DOA estimation problem of LSA is transformed into that of uniform linear arrays (ULAs). Then we only need to consider the mutual coupling in each subarray and use the rank-reduction (RARE) method to estimate DOAs. In contrast to other methods, the proposed approach not only solves the mutual coupling problem, but also estimates the mutual coupling coefficients. The simulation results show that the proposed approach has better DOA estimation performance under unknown mutual coupling.
