Abstract
In this research, CoFe2O4-BiO2−x nanocomposite was prepared using the sol-gel method followed by hydrothermal treatment. The photocatalytic activity of the CoFe2O4-BiO2−x nanocomposite was examined by photocatalytic degradation of chlortetracycline (CTC) under near-infrared (NIR) light irradiation. The CTC photodegradation efficiency with CoFe2O4-BiO2−x photocatalysts (47.42%) was 29 times higher than that of CoFe2O4 (1.64%) and 1.8 times higher than that of BiO2−x (26.02%). This remarkable enhancement of photocatalytic activity could be attributed to the effective separation of photo-generated electrons and holes through a Z-type charge transfer model. Moreover, the CoFe2O4-BiO2−x photocatalysts presented a good stability and the degradation efficiency of CTC was still above 43% after three cycles. In addition, the photocatalysts could be easily separated from the photocatalytic system by a magnet.
