Abstract

In this paper a novel J-Shape active Meta-material Antenna using MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical-Systems) to realize frequency-dependent and frequency-independent reconfigurable radiation patterns are proposed. The active MEMS meta-material Antenna consists of novel J-Shape which processes CRLH (Composite Right Left Hand) property and MEMS switches feed by DC voltage. By actuating MEMS switches on or off, its dispersion property varies, therefore the radiation pattern could be frequency-independent reconfigured from left-hand side (front-side) in MEMS-All-OFF state to the broad-side in MEMS-Half-ON state to the right-hand side (end-fire) in MEMS-All-ON state in the frequency range between 9.55 GHz and 9.75 GHz. This research explore active meta-material reconfigurable antenna of both frequency-dependent and frequency-independent by integrating MEMS devices.
