Abstract

With the advent of Industry 4.0, the multi-state has been a typical feature of modern complex manufacturing systems. The traditional health assessment methods cannot accurately characterize the operating characteristics of a multi-state manufacturing system. It has become a bottleneck to limit the development of Prognostics and Health Management (PHM) for manufacturing systems. To solve this phenomenon, a novel health assessment approach for multi-state manufacturing system was proposed. Firstly, based on the operating characteristics of the manufacturing system, it is proposed that the health assessment for multi-state manufacturing systems should comprehensively analyze the machine performance state, task requirement state and Work In Process quality state. Secondly, based on the multi-state characteristic of the manufacturing system, the new health connotation of the manufacturing system is proposed, and the operational quality data could be used as a tool for the health assessment of manufacturing systems. Thirdly, the health assessment process of a multi-state manufacturing system with rework process is described based on operational quality data. Finally, a case of a cylinder head manufacturing system is used to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
