Abstract

A new phosphor of Eu 2+-doped Cs 2MgSi 5O 12 was synthesized by conventional solid-state reaction. The phase formation was confirmed by X-ray powder diffraction measurements. The photoluminescence excitation and emission spectra were measured. The phosphor presents bright yellowish-green-emitting luminescence. The site-occupancy of Eu 2+ ions doped in Cs 2MgSi 5O 12 was discussed according to the crystal structure and the luminescence characteristics of Eu 2+ ions. Two different Eu 2+ centers were assigned in Cs 2MgSi 5O 12 lattices. The dependence of luminescence intensity on the heating temperatures was measured and discussed. The chromaticity coordinates and activation energy (Δ E) for the thermal quenching of Cs 2MgSi 5O 12:Eu 2+ were reported.
