Abstract

A new tetranuclear Dy(III)-based complex, namely, [Dy4(TTA)4L4(H2O)2]·4CH3OH (1) (H2L = 2-[(4-methoxy-phenyl)imino]methyl]-8-hydroxy- quinoline, TTA = 2-thenoyltrifluoroacetone), has been obtaied by using a multidentate 8-hydroxyquinoline Schiff base ligand (H2L). The structure and magnetic property of cluster 1 have been completely characterized. The structural study reveals that cluster 1 is a tetranuclear dysprosium cluster, in which four Dy(III) ions are conected by four μ-O atoms and two carboxyl of four H2L ligands forming a parallelogram. Magnetic studies reveal that cluster 1 shows slow magnetic relaxation behavior.
