Abstract
The fluorescence intensity of probe CP645 in the presence of iron and a competing ligand is associated with pFe(3+) of the competing ligand. A linear correlation was found to exist between the fluorescence and pFe(3+) values. The pFe(3+) values of well studied ligands calculated from the standard curve are consistent with reported values. This novel fluorescence method can be used to determine the pFe(3+) values of ligands which are difficult to measure using conventional spectrophotometric or potentiometric methods.
