Abstract

A novel kind of filtering monopole antenna is demonstrated in this paper with high selectivity for ultra-wideband applications. The proposed filtenna has an elliptical radiator which is integrated to a bandpass filter to achieve high frequency selectivity along with a compact size. The filter is designed based on a rectangular stub loaded multiple-mode resonator (MMR). Parallel coupled microstrip feed lines backed by ground plane apertures are utilized in the bandpass filter as well as in the integrated filtenna design. The proposed antenna leaves out the need of cascading additional 50 Ω microstrip in between the developed antenna and filter elements and thus making the system more compact. The overall dimension of the filtering antenna is obtained as 59×42 mm2. Performance analysis of the UWB antenna, bandpass filter and their integrated structure has been carried out systematically in this paper. A close agreement of measured result is observed with that simulation for the proposed configurations.
