Abstract

We propose a novel fiber Bragg grating (FBG) accelerometer comprising two straight circular flexure hinges connected in parallel. The theoretical formulas for the new accelerometer were derived and the theoretical sensitivity and structural strength of the accelerometer were obtained with finite element software. The final experimental results show that the sensor has good response characteristics; the measurement range can reach 30–200 Hz and the sensitivity is 54 pm/g. The theoretical results were consistent with the experimental data.
