Abstract

In this paper, a novel fault-tolerant permanent magnet synchronous machine drive (FTPMSMD) is proposed for the applications requiring high reliability such as traction drives. The originality of the proposed FTPMSMD relies on the fact that no reconfigurations or modifications of the controller are required from normal operation to post-fault operation. It is firstly verified by theoretical analysis that the conventional field oriented control can be directly used for both normal operation and post-fault operation. When any open-phase fault is detected, the only required action is to close the corresponding TRIAC (Triode for Alternating Current). Based on dSPACE DS1103, an experimental platform is designed and the effectiveness of the proposed FTPMSMD is verified by experimental results.
