Abstract

A dual band antenna with parasitic structure named as antenna on antenna (AoA) is proposed for fifth generation mobile communication system (5G). The proposed AoA consists of a low frequency dipole antenna and high frequency patch antenna arrays, which covers traditional LTE and 5G millimeter wave band. In order to reduce the size of base station antenna, the millimeter wave patch antenna arrays are parasitic on the low-frequency dipole. While the radiator of the low frequency antenna is utilized as the ground of the millimeter wave patch antenna arrays, both of the low frequency and high frequency antennas share the same dielectric substrate. The simulation results show that the impedance bandwidths of the AoA are 44% and 10.7% for the LTE and 5G bands respectively.
