Abstract

ABSTRACT Rotary dryers are generally preferred for industrial coal drying operations. However, the initial investment and maintenance costs of rotary dryers are quite high. There is also the risk of spontaneous combustion and ignition of coal in such dryers. In this context, carbonic film technology comes to the forefront when an environmentally friendly drying system with low initial investment cost and no risk of ignition of coal. Low-temperature drying can be performed using carbonic film technology. However, there are no dryer systems drying with this technology. The aim of this study is to design a new dryer with carbonic film heater. With the carbonic dryer (CDC) designed as a result of experimental studies, the total energy to be spent for the removal of 9% moisture from 1 ton coal was found to be only 50 kWh. Furthermore, the FIR heating carbonic film is efficient for drying thin-layer coal and is inefficient at high layer thickness.
