Abstract
ABSTRACT Though wet beneficiation technologies for iron ore are well established, owing to issue like disposal of reject as slurry, the development of dry beneficiation technology is being felt by the concerned Industries. A bench-scale dry gravity separator is fabricated, and detailed experimental studies were carried out to evaluate its performance. This study considered three experimental parameters: superficial air velocity, feed rate, deck inclination. Mathematical formulation results corroborated with experimental response indicate that moderate superficial air velocity, low feed rate, and high inclination angle are favourable conditions for enhancing product Fe content. Further experiments were carried out in multiple stages. It is noted that the fabricated unit can produce the sinter grade concentrate (63.5% Fe) with a mass recovery of 22.7% from iron ore 1 and 24.9% from iron ore 2. The performance of the fabricated dry processing unit is compared with the wet processing unit.
