Abstract

This article presents a simplified design of a compact structure with harmonics suppression. The suggested structure is based on a conventional 3-dB branch line coupler, and two pairs of open stubs are adopted at the λ/4 branches to suppress harmonics. With this configuration, two finite attenuation poles will be available, which are able to suppress the second and third harmonics simultaneously. A model of transmission line is introduced for tuning the finite attenuation poles, and the optimal condition could be achieved by using Powell's least square method. To assess the effectiveness of the proposed structure, a novel 3-dB coupler with harmonics suppression is designed, fabricated, and measured. The numerical results demonstrate an excellent match between the numerical analysis and actual measurements. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
