Abstract

A new approach of memory allocating that allowed to perform memory defragment without the help of the memory management unit (MMU) is proposed in this paper. With the proposed allocating schema, memory allocation can be more precise without suffering from internal and external fragmentation and hence the storage cost is reduced as physical memory space can fit the actual requirement in an MMU-less embedded system. With the ability to maximizing the utilization of memory, the schema is needed by an allocator which delivers the high speed but low volume memory to the task for timecritical operation. As a result, the overall cost could be reduced by the increasing of efficiency.
