Abstract

Graphical The reaction of 2-(2′-pyridyl)benzothiazole, L-alanine and perchlorate copper salt in methanol/water system affords a novel Cu(II) coordination polymer [Cu(PBT)(L-Ala)]n(ClO4)n [PBT = 2- (2′- pyridyl)benzothiazole, L-Ala = L-alaninate]. The structure of the polymer has been determined by elemental analysis, IR, X-ray single-crystal diffraction. The results reveal the carboxyl oxygen atoms of L-Ala brige adjacent Cu(II) atoms into 1D single-stranded chiral helical chains, and the Cu(II) coordination polymer consists of the left- and right-hand helical chains arranging alternately. In the Cu(II) coordination polymer, there exist strong aromatic π–π stacking interactions between benzothiazole rings and pyridyl rings, and hydrogen bonding interactions between perchlorate groups and the helical trains. Moreover, the thermal stability and fluorescent properties of the polymer are described.
