Abstract

This paper presents a novel power source based on a current transformer (CT) and using a new conversion concept. Conversion is done by a current steering mechanism in the form of a current transformer with two secondary windings. The direct conversion concept, based on flux modulation with the basic circuit, is then presented. The control winding is designed so that when it is short-circuited the resulting current saturates the core irrespective of what happens in the load/main winding and thus affecting the electromagnetic force in the main winding. Simulation and experimental results of a reduced scale model are followed by conclusion.
