Abstract

Aiming at improving efficiency and reliability of offshore renewable energy power generation, hybrid offshore wind and tidal power generation system was proposed. A novel control strategy was presented in this paper to smooth the power fluctuation which is caused by the wind power fluctuation. The wind turbine operates with the maximum power point tracking method, and the tidal turbine can be used to compensate the wind power fluctuation on short time scales. The tidal base power coefficient is identified to describe the compensation ratio of the tidal power. The tidal target power can be determined by choosing the value of tidal base power coefficient. By tracking the tidal target power, the tidal power generation can compensate the power fluctuation, and the power output of hybrid offshore wind and tidal power generation system can be smoothed. Simulations are performed to verify the effectiveness of the proposed smoothing strategy.
