Abstract

A switched reluctance (SR) motor is simple and robust, and less expensive due to no rare earth magnets. Thus, the SR motor is one of the best in-wheel motors for electric vehicles (EVs). In previous works, a compact EV equipped with two 16/20 SR motors in rear wheels has been prototyped. This paper presents a novel control method for the in-wheel SR motor to implement a torque vectoring control for the prototyped EV.
