Abstract

Composite Si-Mo-Ti coatings with Ti concentration gradient have been successfully prepared on Nb-Si based ultrahigh temperature alloy by slurry sintering. The gradient structure has a higher content of Ti and a lower content of Mo in the outermost layer, which can inhibit the formation of volatile MoO3 and cracks in the coating and guarantee the rapid formation of a dense Si-O-Ti layer during oxidation. After oxidation at 1380 ℃ for 100 h in air, a continuous and compact (Ti,X)O2 layer and a dense duplex Si-O-Ti/(Ti,X)O2 layer formed, which dramatically reduces inward diffusion of O2- and effectively improves the oxidation resistance.
