Abstract

A new compact dual-linearly polarized ultrawideband (UWB) antenna for continuous operation from 100 to 2000 MHz band with a minimum realized gain of -15 dBi is presented. The bore-sight realized gain monotonically increases from -15 dBi at 90 MHz to 0 dBi at 600 MHz, and remains approximately +4 dBi above 1000 MHz. The flared horn section closer to the feed is responsible for radiation above 1000 MHz. The compactness of this antenna at low frequency is achieved via ferrite absorber treatment on the ground plane and series inductive loading at the end of the antenna arms. The overall antenna size is a diameter of 15 in and height of 6 in. Linearly polarized fields are radiated from two orthogonal antennas. This antenna is suitable for software-defined radio application.
