Abstract

In this paper, a novel compact defected ground structure (DGS) with cross-finger gap was proposed. Comparing to conventional structure, the new structure increases the equivalent gap capacitance by adopting the cross-finger shape, instead of the conventional direct edge shape. Due to the DGS stopband theory, the higher equivalent capacitance means the lower stopband. Consequently, for the same stopband, the DGS wi th cross-finger gap has the more compact size. This novel compact DGS was simulated and verified. The compact size may reduce the back-radiation from the etched DGS in the ground.
