Abstract

Calibration is essential for the radar cross section (RCS) measurement, and the characteristics of calibrator have a significant effect on the calibration accuracy. A novel calibrator suitable for the metal pylon is presented in this letter. The most attractive advantage of the new calibrator is that its RCS is insensitive to the elevation in comparison with the right circular cylinder. In addition, the novel calibrator can be easily installed on the head of the metal pylon, and the approximate solution of the RCS exists. What is more, the target-support interaction of the novel calibrator is no larger than the amount of the comparable-sized cylinder. These advantages of the calibrator are demonstrated by some full-wave simulations.
