Abstract

A novel broadband rectangular waveguide TE01–TE20 mode converter is proposed in this letter. It can realize high-efficiency (>97.5%) mode conversion in broadband. It basically consists of three parts: a coupling cavity, a vertically positioned input port, and a horizontally positioned overmoded output port. In order to expand its operation bandwidth, several step-matching sections are added between the coupling cavity and each port. An out-of-phase power divider is designed to verify the mode converter by observing the difference of output phase and flat frequency characteristics when connected to the mode converter. A sample converter and a T-junction were then fabricated and tested. Flat frequency characteristics for power dividing and antiphase outputs are obtained in the working bandwidth to verify the mode converter with a good performance of mode converting.
