Abstract

We introduce a new technique for designing broadband circular-polarized Magneto-electric dipole antennas based on frequency selective surfaces (FSS). The proposed structure worked at X-band mainly has two parts including FSS and a magneto-electric antenna. The magneto-electric antenna is made to radiate linear-polarized electromagnetic wave, and the FSS which consist of periodic structure is used as a broadband (7.2–11.9GHz) linear-to-circular polarization converter. We put the periodic structure arrangement with 5×5 elements above the antenna and simulate them as a whole structure. The simulation results of the whole structure show good circular polarization radiation characteristic. The antenna operates at central frequency of 9.65GHz, with a 3-dB AR fractional bandwidth of 22.1% and a −10dB return loss fractional bandwidth of 33.1%.
