Abstract

Nowadays, the release of textile effluents has become a global environmental concern. Herein, Taonia atomaria macroalga was used for removing toluidine blue (TB) and basic yellow 28 (BY-28) dyes from water. The characterization results revealed that the Taonia atomaria surface exhibited an open morphology enriched with functional moieties. The maximum uptake capacity of Taonia atomaria biosorbent reached 104.16 and 140.84 mg.g−1 for BY-28 and TB dyes, respectively. The spent Taonia atomaria biosorbent was successfully reused up to 6 times. Overall, Taonia atomaria macroalgae might be consideredas an affordable, ecofriendly and reusable biosorbent for treating textile dyes-laden effluents.
