Abstract

A novel dual-polarized base station antenna element is proposed for 3G, LTE and 5G mobile communication systems. The design consists of two orthogonal diamond dipoles, where two circular slots on one dipole are dug and the other dipole is complete diamond. The arrangement of the two dipoles in cross-pairs can realize 45° polarization radiation. The diamond patch of each dipole includes two pairs of branches. Simulation results show that the dual-polarized base station antenna element has enough bandwidth and excellent radiation characteristics, in-cluding high front-to-back ratio (>22 dB), high cross-polarization discrimination (>13 dB), and stable gains, about 8.5 dBi in 1.4-2.7 GHz and 5 dBi in 3.8-4.2 GHz. Due to its simple structure and good performance, the designed antenna element will be widely used in base station antenna array.
