Abstract

A novel bandwidth-enhanced substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) cavity-backed slot antenna is proposed in this paper. This antenna is designed and fabricated on a low-cost FR4 substrate. The enhancement of the bandwidth is achieved by using a new shape of slot and inserting a metallic via in the cavity. Compared with traditional SIW cavity-backed slot antenna, it shows a better impedance bandwidth performance up to 17.1% and a maximum gain of 5.58 dBi. Good agreement between simulated and measured results is found and presented.
