Abstract

AbstractThis paper deals with a novel approach to the model for the management of drinking water and sanitation services at the municipal level for the Municipality of San Joaquin, Carabobo State, Venezuela (SJM‐CS). The Autonomous Institute of Water (IAGUASAJO) of the SJM‐CS showed a significant increase in the performance of its functions with respect to the Municipal Directorate of Water and Public Works in the period 2019–2021. In the period 2020–2021, IAGUASANJO has performed functions with the main service provider at the regional/national level as well as with the communal councils of four communes located within the Municipality of San Joaquin. These functions encompassed the supervision, inspection, construction and rehabilitation of drinking water and sanitation services, making progress in the process of transition from the provision of services from the regional/national provider to the local provider at the municipal level.
