Abstract

This paper presents the measurement of transmission line parameters from the models of Current transformer and Rogowski coil and hence used in algorithm for fault location detection in transmission lines. Rogowski coil as current sensor is gaining importance due to its linearity and wide band width. A lumped parameter model of Rogowski coil and the current and voltage transformer models are developed and integrated with a power system model. All types of faults at different locations, fault inception angles and fault resistances are simulated in the power system model. On estimation of phasors in both the cases, fault location is detected. The test results show that Rogowski coils have better performance thus offering a fast and reliable technique of power system restoration as compared to Current transformers.
