Abstract

The present work aims to study the photocatalytic and the anticorrosion properties of CeO2-nanotubes (CeNTs) and CeNTs decorated by plasmonic nanoparticles (Au, Ag and Pt). CeNTs were obtained by a hydrothermal method, while the deposition precipitation using the urea method was chosen for the CeNTs metallization. The materials characteristics were performed using UV–Visible in Reflection Diffuse spectroscopy (RD/UV–Vis), Fourier transform infraRed spectroscopy, N2 adsorption–desorption using BET method, X-ray diffraction and thermo-gravimetric (TG–DTA) analysis. The nanotubes anticorrosion properties on mild steel corrosion in 1 N HCl were estimated by means of the gravimetric method. The nanomaterials photocatalytic performance was evaluated in the methyl orange photodecomposition. The anticorrosion and the photodegradation efficiencies exceeded 98%.
