Abstract

As the need for higher bandwidths in telecommunication systems is gearing up, it is being anticipated that in near future, all optical processing will provide a feasible solution to cater to the need of the hour. Semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOA) are key components in the present day all optical networks. They are being employed as wavelength converters, optical logic gates, bit comparators and many other all-optical digital signal processing applications. In this paper, a new and improved design of an all-optical NAND gate using cross gain modulation of SOA has been suggested and demonstrated successfully at 10 Gb/s.
