Abstract

In this paper, a novel approach based on General Relativity Search Algorithm (GRSA) for Automatic Generation Control (AGC) of a two area interconnected thermal-thermal power system is described. In the investigated power system, governor dead-band is considered as a nonlinearity. At first, AGC of the power system is analyzed with Proportional Integral (PI) controller and further Proportional Integral Derivative (PID) controller is also utilized. The parameters of the PI and PID controllers are optimized by GRSA. The gain multiplied Integral Time Absolute Error (g-ITAE) fitness function is employed to find the best solution for the PI and PID based controller design using the novel technique. The superiority of the GRSA optimized PI, and PID controllers are presented by comparing its results with the published results of modern soft computing technique i.e. Craziness based Particle Swarm Optimization(C-PSO) tuned PI controller. Numerical simulation results validate the efficiency of the GRSA for AGC design applications.
