Abstract

A novel coordination polymer [Ni(bic) 2] n , Hbic=1-H-benzimidazole-5-carboxylic acid, has been obtained through self-assembly of Ni(NO 3) 2·6H 2O with Hbic and characterized by IR spectra and elemental analysis. X-ray diffraction analysis shows that it is a 1D ladder-like structure, which is further assembled by other bic − ions to form 2D framework. Complex Ni(bic) 2 crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group Pbcn, with a=12.366(4), b=15.232(5), c=15.191(5) Å, α=90(0), β=90(0), γ=90(0)° and Z=8. Magnetic property study indicates that there is weak antiferromagnetic coupling interaction between Ni(II) ions.
