Abstract

Estimation of input pulse or beam energy is crucial for soliton generation. It is rather easier for conventional solitons that are generated in isotropic media but difficult for anisotropic media, wherein a certain property of the media follows a pattern. This article presents a novel algorithm that can estimate and optimize the initial pulse energy to ensure a stable optical soliton in an anisotropic medium having a patterned property. For demonstration, local nonlinear media with periodic dispersion, diffraction, and nonlinearity as well as nonlocal nonlinear media with periodic diffraction are considered separately. This algorithm can be applied to media with any kind of dispersion map, including an irregular one. It can also be used for media with patterned diffraction, patterned nonlinearity, and multi-layered composite materials.
