Abstract

The automatic contingency selection(ACS) plays an important role in system security assessment. In this paper a novel algorithm for static security analysis is presented. The algorithm can automatically distinguish critical outages from non-critical outages without a stopping criterion, and successively implement the security assessment (SA) after each critical outage is identified. Since the automatic selection and security assessment for each contingency can be synchronously completed in one circulation, it stands to reason that the algorithm is much more feasible for on-line application in modern control centers. In the paper a few assessment criteria, such as capture rate, false decision probabilities, the benefit of saving computational time, etc, are defined in precise expressions. Furthermore, the choice principle of performance indices and the cause of masking phenomenon are discussed, and a weighting coefficient based on security region, alarm region and violation region is given.
