Abstract

A novel primary receiver protection method is proposed in this paper. The novelty of approach lies in obtaining the primary user information in cognitive radio network. Here a cognitive radio (CR) node can get information from primary receiver (PURx) individually. For protection from mutual interference of primary transmitter (PUTx) and CR nodes at PURx a power controlling algorithm is implemented. The power of CR nodes is varied, which dynamically changes the range of transmission. The CR node needs information of primary communication so that an interference constraint must be maintained between primary users and CR nodes. The proposed approach reduces the dependency of getting primary communication information from PUTx. The results indicate that less amount of energy is needed to run the network along with a notable improvement in average throughput for increasing amount of CR traffic.
