Abstract
Concerns about the environmental issues such as CO <sub xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">2</sub> emissions and air pollution have initiated the injection of the electric vehicles (EVs) into the transportation sector. With the penetration of the EVs into the distribution system, a variety of problems will emerge. One of the important impacts of the EVs is on the protection system. The malfunction of the overcurrent relays' coordination is a crucial effect of the EVs. To improve coordination with the existence of EVs, a novel algorithm, based on the genetic algorithm (GA) is suggested for optimizing the relays' operating time. Then, the effect of the EVs' parking capacity is investigated on the relays' pickup and short circuit current, and the operating time.
